To address Mustaq’s question, there are a couple of different important points to answer your question, regarding unplanned weight training.
First off, working out anything unplanned, does not accomplish anything. If we start right from the beginning, you need to understand the choices in the area of fitness that exists, and what each of these options can (and cannot) do for you.
For instance, if you get interested in Cardio sports such as Long Distance Running, Bicycling, Swimming etc, that’s really great. But, you need to understand that they don’t get your body very strong overall.
Strength Training has its benefit with regard to getting you very strong overall, builds muscle (I am not talking about body building), gets your bones dense/strong, so that they don’t fracture when you fall etc., improves your sense of balance, so that you don’t fall (this is especially important as you get older…think of how many elders among us have fallen and broken their hips!!!)…
What’s more Strength Training improves your heart health greatly and also improves your Cardio !!!
And then, there are other things like Yoga, which improves your body flexibility…and many other options.Once you get to understand the options and choose what might be best for you, then, please set a goal for your fitness. Then work towards the goal. This really is the difference between “Exercising” and “Training”
Exercising is what you do in the gym, whenever you go there and without any plan or purpose or knowledge about what to do (and how to do). So, if you see people on the treadmill, that’s what you do… If you see people on the lat pull-down, that’s what you do… and if you see people doing bicep curls (gosh !!!!) then, that’s what you do. This accomplishes NOTHING.
This is one point. The other point is, let’s take the instance where you see people on the Bench Press. So, you also proceed to do some Bench Presses. So, you start low and see the other guys do 80 kgs (or more) bench press. You want to do 80 too, so you try that yourself !!! Bam… you don’t know proper form, and the weight is just TOO heavy for you…for today. So, you get yourself injured… Really bad… And, then, you can’t go to the gym again for a long time.
So, on both the above counts, please ensure that there is no unplanned activity with regard to fitness/health.
Just as nothing else (such as anything at your work place) happens without a plan/purpose, the same holds true for your fitness regimen too.
Let us know if you have any more questions…
BR SrinivasanKeymasterThere are your issues for why you are not losing excess weight.
Some ‘rules’ to start with…
1) Don’t skip breakfast
2) Reduce (not eliminate) your Simple Carbohydrate intake (such as Idli, Dosai) … Increase your Complex Carb intake (like Oats)for breakfast.
3) Include good amount of Protein, in your breakfast. Say, 4 boiled eggs (WITH YOLK INCLUDED)… No salt… is good protein for breakfast.
4) Complete your dinner BEFORE 7.30 – 8.00p.
5) EAT NOTHING afterwards and for another 12-14 hours. Until you break this fast with you know what? With Breakfast!!!Sleep min 7-8 hours every day (night).
Try these and in 2 weeks or less, you will lose significant amount of excess body weight.
The process should then continue…
Food is the MOST important aspect of weight loss, perhaps, even more so than exercise.
BR SrinivasanKeymasterAnother criteria is as much less oil, the better… So, if you try to eat omelette at a roadside eatery, and he is putting in 1 to 2 spoons of oil (God knows how many times this oil has been reused), and then puts in a heck of a lot of aginomoto, and then adds another couple of spoons of oil for
One side of the omelette and then, again another spoon or so for doing the other side… that’s obviously no good. So, cooked eggs are the best…but watch how they get cooked.Uncooked eggs have the following problems:
1) you could get salmonella poisoning, if the eggs are not washed properly…most eggs we get are not, as you would have noticed
2) Uncooked eggs do not get absorbed properly by the body…so, eating/drinking wastes the egg really
3) There could be other problems, like lifelong respiratory allergies that you’ll develop, if you eat em raw…
So, avoid raw eggs, and watch how they get cooked. Otherwise, any way you cook em is good. Raw eggs…not so good
(Half Boiled) Not so good, because of the reasons stated above… too much oil (if used) and the uncooked portions can cause
a) salmonella poisoning
b) nutrients don’t get absorbed as much (if at all)
c) could cause respiratory allergies to you for lifeSainadh… eat both the egg whites and (all) the yolks…
BR SrinivasanKeymasterEggs ought to be cooked….is the criteria.
BR SrinivasanKeymasterWell, that’s a good question. Always, “nattu kozhi muttai” is the best. But, the question is, if you are able to get them and know that they are really “nattu kozhi muttai”. Most places will sell you eggs, regular broiler stuff, dipped in tea water (or something like that)…And simply charge (cheat) you more…
BR SrinivasanKeymasterYeah, and again, all of that is GOOD for you.
BR SrinivasanKeymasterAnd, no… eating fat (dietary fat) does NOT make you store body fat. The only fat that’s bad, I’d Trans fat… The kind you get from eating chips or French fries
To answer your question, Egg yolks are good for you… Eat em all the time.
BR SrinivasanKeymaster4 boiled eggs, with yolks are good…I eat em… Every day (almost). No problem…The bloating is likely from something else (some other dairy, likely). Egg whites along with the yolk please ? (just making sure)
Yeah they do, along with more protein and many more extremely good nutrients. And that’s why you should eat em.
BR SrinivasanKeymasterWell, for one thing Devine, don’t restrict yourself to egg whites. Please, please please, do eat the yolks too. And, no, they won’t cause you to get any fatter nor will it cause your ‘cholesterol numbers’ to go up.
What will go up is your strength. You could add an orange (not orange juice) to your breakfast. All put together, should make a WONDERFUL breakfast, that will keep you satiated (satisfied) quite well.
BR SrinivasanKeymasterThats great…..
BR SrinivasanKeymasterWe can always deal with your weight a bit later on. Let’s try jogging for a couple of weeks and see how you feel. Also, let’s meet to discuss, if possible… Love to talk face to face with you.
BR SrinivasanKeymasterIn are you haven’t tried jogging /running yet, I suggest you give it a try. Might help a great Deal…In case you haven’t
BR SrinivasanKeymasterThat’s more of a body building type routine… Anyway, does working out this way, help you with your OCD? You might try some cardio too and see if it helps you more…try jogging a couple of kilometers. See if that makes you feel better…
BR SrinivasanKeymasterOk. And what all do you do in your Campus Gym? Anything specific??
I am asking, because I would like to understand if you are doing a lot of cardio based training (such as treadmill) or maybe body building type training or strength training etc… But, specifically for you, working out will release endorphins in your brain, which will calm you down, and will likely help with your OCD.
Do you feel better after a workout ?? Or no?
